Governor Everett Chavez

Everett F. Chavez, a devoted husband, father of four, and respected three-time Governor of Kewa Pueblo, passed away needlessly and wrongfully due to medical neglect by the University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH).
To free up a bed and avoid addressing Mr. Chavez’s immediate medical needs, UNMH improvidently discharged him to a Rehabilitation Hospital in November 2018. Due to their lack of care and respect for Indigenous lives, his condition worsened resulting in his untimely passing on December 10, 2018.
