UNMH

Native American patients were guaranteed the highest level of medical care at UNMH

On June 18, 1952 a contract was made between the United States of America and the State of New Mexico, acting for the County of Bernalillo, and the Board of Trustees of the Bernalillo County Hospital that UNMH would be required to:

“[G]uarantee that said hospital when constructed shall have and make available perpetually, when required, no less than one-hundred (100) beds for Indians to provide perpetual general hospital care and medical, surgical and obstetrical care and treatment of the highest medical standard for Indians[.]”
